Students often find the jump from drawing flat images to 3D realism quite difficult but there are a few techniques you can demonstrate as a Teacher to get their heads around this. Contour lines is a great place to start- and you can link it to established Artists such as Bridget Riley and Jacob Epstein. These Artists created optical illusions- and this is basically what we’re creating when we make a drawing look 3D on a flat surface. Below is a quick demonstration you can use in your lessons.
